Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support security staff, ensure compliance with Public Safety policies, assist with administrative tasks, and serve as backup for security leadership.
- Conduct investigations, review incident reports, monitor campus activity, perform security tours, respond to alarms, and address behaviors or conditions that may pose safety risks.
- Operate, maintain, and regularly inspect security systems including surveillance, visitor access, access control, alarms, and fire systems while participating in policy improvements, safety drills, and crisis management procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, collaborate across departments, and document incidents clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new skills, think critically under pressure, manage challenging behaviors, and apply effective deescalation techniques.
- Ability to drive a company vehicle for campus surveillance and other required duties.
- Knowledge of Shrub Oak’s organizational policies and procedures.
- Complete any other required certifications, including TCIS training.
Position Requirements:
- A minimum of 60 college credits (preferably in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, or related fields), a relevant degree, or applicable experience.
- 5-7+ years of experience in a similar role, including Commissioned Law Enforcement, military, or as a security officer with knowledge of current law enforcement methods and techniques is required.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to pass a DM abstract screening is required.
- Proactive ability to identify issues or problems and select the most appropriate solution from multiple options, often quickly, in response to changing and urgent circumstances.
- Proven ability to effectively manage and provide leadership to assigned personnel. 2+ years of directly managing staff is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas both orally and in writing to a diverse client base (e.g., staff, direct reports, parents, visitors).
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with security-related software systems is required.
- Ability to follow simple instructions and operate independently during the tour of duty.
- Excellent organizational and follow-up skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to complete assigned tasks within scheduled timelines.
- Ability to consistently adhere to procedures and guidelines.
- Capacity to make sound, quick decisions and judgments under changing circumstances and conditions.
- Our campus consists of some paved areas but primarily consists of grass, gravel paths and parking lots. Additionally, many areas of our building are fully accessible, however, as a historic building some areas are only accessible by stairs. You must be able to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass and gravel.
- Must be able to react and move quickly during crisis, both for the safety of all.
- Must be able to run across the campus and throughout the school to catch/monitor crisis situations and/or to remove yourself from an unsafe situation.
- You must be able to pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools).
- You must be able to bend, stretch, sit, stand, crouch or kneel for sustained periods of time if implementing a hold.
