The Pines at Shrub Oak is a 24-bed, coeducational, interim residential placement for students on the autism spectrum who may need significant psychiatric support and stabilization before transitioning to a less restrictive environment. Students at the Pines receive psychiatric services in addition to the academic and life skills instruction in a safe, supportive environment with a 2:1 student to staff ratio.  

The Clinical Team Lead is a licensed professional who will provide direct, strategic expertise and leadership within The Pines. This person will serve as the lead for a team of direct-care and clinical staff serving a cohort of youth within The Pines, and within that team will be responsible for direct supervision of direct-care staff supervisors and clinicians. The Clinical Team Lead will work alongside members of the transdisciplinary team to develop, implement, and oversee, the provision of clinically informed policies and procedures and as well as evidence based clinical practices for students on the autism spectrum with coexisting psychiatric needs. The candidate should be able to collaborate and maintain key relationships with students, their families, and all levels of staff at the Shrub Oak International School, to ensure that both the individualized needs of each student, and the collective needs of our growing program, are met. Having access to confidential information, discretion and independent judgment is required in this role.  

Essential Functions – Primary Responsibilities of the Position 

  • Functions as the leader of a team of Clinical Staff, Support Staff Supervisors, and Direct Support Professionals to provide holistic care to a cohort of students within The Pines. 

  • Responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of clinical staff regarding the provision of clinical services to The Pines residents and family members, including individual, group, and family therapy 

  • Responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of Support Staff Supervisors and indirect oversight of a team of Direct Support Professionals who provide 24-hour care and supervision to residents of The Pines 

  • Provides clinical case coverage and on an as-needed basis may provide individual, family and group therapy in varying modalities and formats to residential students of The Pines 

  • Rotating 24hr on-call responsibility to respond to emergent resident needs 

  • Provides in-person clinical support on evenings and weekends based on a rotating schedule 

  • Conducts assessments and reassessments of a student’s social and emotional needs. Based on these findings, develops individualized ITEP goals and treatment plans for each student 

  • Utilizes a variety of treatment modalities that are student-centered, strength-based, empathic, and creative to address each student’s particular needs   

  • Designs, implements, and/or supervises new systems, groups, and alternative programming for students.  

  • Oversees and coordinates the scheduling of clinical and non-clinical staff within team. 

  • Ensures that clinical session notes and required documentation are appropriately prepared, collected and submitted as required 

  • Works as part of The Pines interdisciplinary leadership team and collaborates with psychiatry, nursing, education, and other staff to provide comprehensive care to students 

  • Regularly facilitates and co-facilitates meetings including team meetings, treatment reviews, DBT consultation team, and other meetings 

  • Proactively maintains communication with students, family members and/or other caregivers, as appropriate, to effectively address student progress, development, and challenges as needed 

  • Remains up to date on clinical matters, to maintain best in class knowledge of evaluation, intervention, and areas under their responsibility   

  • Participates, as needed, in community and professional education regarding clinical matters, treatment modalities life skills, independence, and related areas

 Minimum Experience & Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (Clinical), Mental Health Counseling, Art Therapy, or PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or related field is required   

  • One of the following New York State Licenses, in good, professional standing: LCSW, PsyD, LMHC or LCAT. 

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience to develop, engage, and lead a team of clinical and non-clinical staff   

  • Experience working with students with developmental disabilities and/or on the autistic spectrum is strongly preferred; school experience is a plus   

Competencies 

  • Competency in developing, implementing, and training evidence-based clinical programming (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy experience preferred). 

  • Exceptional communication (oral and written) and active listening skills to appropriately understand and meet student needs, as well as to interact with faculty, staff, families, and all external constituencies 

  • Expertise to make recommendations for the design of programming to meet the evolving needs of program and students   

  • Excellent analytical capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to understand, problem solve, and make sound determinations/decisions in situations with complex facts and data   

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders while being sensitive and responsive to the diverse needs of students, families, faculty, and staff, with a high degree of cultural competency and collegiality   

  • Ability to effectively and proactively interact with a wide variety of individuals in a manner that values diversity, and positively portrays our programs, personnel, and philosophies   

  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible while leading, developing, and mentoring others 

  • Ability to multitask and make sound and appropriate decisions under pressure, where situations/circumstances are continually evolving   

  • Ability to work as a team player and cross-functionally with other disciplines and programs within Shrub Oak   

  • Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other software 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-time position; rotating on call responsibility and evening/ weekend shifts. 

Pay: $115,000/yr + Competitive Benefits

Physical Demands 

Work regularly requires sustained concentration. Sitting at a desk, walking up and down stairs (program has 3 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This is a 12-month Full-time position (traditional 40-hour work week). Your manager will discuss the particular shift hours, which could be day, evening and/or weekends. Demands of the job may require working outside these hours and on weekends as needed and required.
