Position Title: Security Supervisor
Schedule: Overnight Shift, 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $23-$25/hr
The Security Supervisor is a full-time, professional role reporting to the Director of Public Safety. This hands-on leadership position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and campus property. The Supervisor will lead security staff during the overnight shift, oversee daily security operations, respond to incidents and emergencies, and ensure full compliance with safety procedures and protocols.
This role also involves training and mentoring team members, collaborating with other departments, conducting safety inspections and drills, and documenting incidents. The Supervisor will act as the first responder to emergencies and may assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Public Safety. Due to access to confidential information, discretion and sound judgment are essential.
Supervise and lead assigned security personnel in accordance with school policies and Public Safety protocols
Manage the day-to-day safety operations of the overnight shift
Serve as the primary responder to alarms and incidents, including implementing crisis protocols as needed
Conduct routine inspections of doors, windows, gates, and other campus areas to ensure a secure environment
Operate and maintain security systems including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarms
Oversee and document incident investigations; ensure timely and accurate reporting
Conduct regular fire and safety drills in accordance with school guidelines
Patrol school buildings and grounds on foot and/or by vehicle to prevent and detect issues
Monitor staff, visitors, and drivers to ensure safe and appropriate conduct on campus
Assist with documentation, reports, and recordkeeping related to security and safety
Serve as a backup contact for external security system vendors and providers
Collaborate with other departments to maintain a cohesive, safe environment for students and staff
Assume the responsibilities of the Director of Public Safety in their absence
Perform additional duties as assigned
Education & Experience
Minimum of 60 college credits (preferably in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field), or equivalent relevant experience
5–7+ years of progressive experience in security, law enforcement, or military service
Proven experience supervising teams in a safety/security setting
Hands-on experience with surveillance, access control, and emergency response technologies
Skills & Abilities
Deep understanding of modern security practices, crisis management, and de-escalation techniques
Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in report writing and emergency communication
Ability to lead under pressure, make sound decisions quickly, and maintain composure in emergencies
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively across diverse groups
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle competing priorities
High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
Willingness to manage and de-escalate challenging and aggressive behaviors
Commitment to ongoing professional development and training
Ability to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCIS) training and maintain all required certifications

This role requires sustained attention and the ability to respond to physical and mental demands quickly. Duties may involve:
Standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods
Navigating stairs (6-floor building) and uneven terrain across a large campus
Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 25 lbs
Quick movement between buildings or responding to emergencies at a moment’s notice
Shrub Oak is located on a 127-acre campus featuring both indoor and outdoor environments. Security Supervisors may be stationed in academic, residential, or administrative areas and must be comfortable transitioning between settings. Buildings are accessible by staircases and elevators.
