Essential Functions:
The Job Coach is a 12-month calendar year position reporting to the Assistant Transition Coordinator. The Job Coach facilitates on and off campus transition topics and provides support for students based on their Transition Plan goals, ITEP goals, and/or credential requirements in collaboration with the classroom teachers, and other team members for each student. In addition, the Job Coach will have a strong partnership with education and clinical staff to support an individualized, evidence-based educational and transition program considering each student's interests, strengths and needs. On non-academic days, the Job Coach will design and implement topics to ensure transition goals are continuous. The Job Coach will communicate closely with the Assistant Transition Coordinator, classroom teachers and all levels of staff to support students. The Job Coach also actively assists with other programs, events, and services, and can be involved in a wide range of educational responsibilities. Having access to confidential information regarding students; therefore, discretion and sound judgement are required. Furthermore, the Job Coach will also be required to drive students who are enrolled in the transition program to and from off campus internships and community service.
Implements Internship programming with students on and off campus
Assesses effectiveness of on and off campus programming, making necessary adaptations as needed with guidance from the Assistant Transition Coach
Sets up and adapts materials, equipment, and assistive devices for use by student(s) as directed
Facilitates and supports student progress toward independence
Monitors and assists students including data collection during Transition activities both on and off campus
Assists student(s) with routine physical and/or personal care not required to be performed by a nurse
Monitors and assists students in meeting IEP goals and objectives
Participates in professional development meetings as needed and required
Intervenes in crisis intervention and behavioral techniques as needed
Proactively works with students in crisis to de-escalate situations as needed and required using SOIS protocol
Attend to and report all emergencies and/or other situations requiring immediate attention in a timely manner to the appropriate staff member (s) in accordance with Shrub Oak policies/procedures
Provides classroom and support staff coverage for teachers as needed
Provides general clerical support, including typing, filing, making phone calls, scheduling, classroom preparation, and other similar tasks
Assists students with self-care needs, and assists with behavior management, as needed
Ensure safety procedures are followed
Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:
Experience & Education:
Knowledge of and experience with crisis prevention and intervention strategies and practices, and behavior intervention plans
Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities (Required)
Demonstrates working knowledge of English, spelling, vocabulary and mathematics
Passionate about working with and mentoring students (adolescents and young adults) within the area of responsibilities, all to empower his/her self-determination, self-advocacy and development
Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly, concisely in both oral and written form
Ability to use SOIS’s technology system
Ability to accept feedback for continuous improvement
Reports promptly for work, utilizes time wisely and maintains an acceptable attendance pattern
Ability and willingness to learn new skills

Ability to handle highly challenging behaviors, including those aggressive in nature
Ability to get TCIS trained and complete/maintain all required trainings
Salary: $64,350

Physical Requirements/Demands:
A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. May need to lift/move boxes up to 25 pounds and move or rearrange furniture.
Work Environment:
We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
